The year 2009 begins with a thump for Star World. From winning awards to being nominated across genres, the channel was at the top! Star World’s hit sitcom ‘30 Rock’ was the big winner at the 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards.
‘30 Rock’ won in all three categories in which it was nominated. For the second year running, Tina Fey, ‘30 Rock’s writer, producer and star, was announced as the Best Actress in a TV Comedy. Her role as lovelorn TV producer Liz Lemon is a huge hit and her portrayal has been appreciated by audiences. Her co-star, Alec Baldwin, took home the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a TV Comedy for his portrayal of network boss Jack Donaghy.
Rounding out the show’s triumph, the Hollywood Foreign Press awarded the sitcom Best TV Comedy Series.
Star World – a gamut of nominations:
* Sally Field from ‘Brothers and Sisters’ was nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series.
* Tony Shalhoub from ‘Monk’ was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series.
* Rachel Griffiths from ‘Brothers and Sisters’ was nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Television Series.
Various other series belonging to Star World were nominated and are not presently on air. However, the channel does hold the exclusive rights. They are:
* Kyra Sedgwick from ‘The Closer’ for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series.
* ‘The Office’ was nominated for Best Television Series and Christina Applegate from ‘Samantha Who?’ was Nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series.
* Steve Carell from ‘The Office’ was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series.
* Neil Patrick Harris from ‘How I Met Your Mother’ was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Television Series.
The 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards was seen in more than 160 countries worldwide along with more than 50 Hollywood stars as presenters. The awards ceremony took place on Jan. 11 at the Beverly Hilton.
